Materials, lighting, import, export, and optimization

Materials and lighting are what separate a room from a venue. They are also where a build becomes expensive for the people visiting it. This article gathers what can be sourced today and is explicit about the rest.

Materials and lighting are what separate a room from a venue. They are also where a build becomes expensive for the people visiting it. This article gathers what can be sourced today and is explicit about the rest.

Materials

The game has a material system that is being rolled out across its content. The official update announcement of 9 July 2025 describes classic clothing items being remastered on a new material system, which it credits with finer surface detail and more room to customise. Whether the editor exposes that same system to builders is not stated anywhere that could be read.

Lighting and atmosphere

Outside the editor, the cloud icon in the bottom-left corner of the screen changes the time of day, which changes how a location is lit. Inside the editor, the community PDF manual hosted by a community guide site is the fullest available description of the tools, and the community tutorial playlist shows a club being lit and finished across a single long episode.

Sharing a finished world

A community guide describes custom worlds as shared with specific players, appearing on the right side of the location interface for the people who have been given access. That is the extent of what could be confirmed about distribution.

Optimization

What still needs checking

  • Whether materials, colours and textures are editable per object, and which controls exist.

  • Whether lights are objects, and which types are available.

  • Whether worlds can be exported to or imported from a file, and where those files are written.

  • What the practical limits on a world are before performance suffers for visitors.
