Avatar files, presets, and partial loading
An avatar in 3DXChat can be saved to a file on your own computer and loaded back later. Since June 2025 it can also be loaded in pieces, which is what makes a personal style library practical.

The partial avatar loader
The official update announcement of 19 June 2025 introduced the Partial Avatar Loader. It loads only part of an avatar file, such as the hair or the clothes, without replacing the rest of the character.
Two things follow from that.
A saved avatar file is no longer all or nothing. One element can be borrowed from a saved look while everything else stays as it is.
Files are held locally. The announcement describes the result as building your own style library on your PC.
Working with avatar files
The file extension named in the announcement is .avatar. Because these files sit on your own machine rather than on the server, they survive whatever happens to the live character, which makes saving before a large edit a cheap insurance policy.

Rules follow the appearance
An avatar is covered by the official game rules in the same way a name is. Appearances that are abusive, discriminatory, obscene, or that reuse copyrighted or trademarked material may be modified or sanctioned by the administration. A file made by somebody else becomes your responsibility the moment you load it, because the rules hold the account holder responsible for what appears under the account.
